Day 1 – Travel to Paris and Seine River Cruise

I departed London at 10am to head into Paris. Upon arrival at the Hotel Le Magellan, a quaint 3 star located just a 20min walk from the Arc De Triomphe, we were given our rooms. Very clean simple and beautiful views of their courtyard. As this hotel is located in a quiet residential street in 17th arrondissement you are surrounded by an excellent variety of restaurants and bars in the vicinity. I took full advantage of the local pâtisseries and restaurants this afternoon enjoying wonderful sandwiches and Pain Au Chocolates.

This evening, we hopped on our private coach to the Eiffel Tower, found a little bar and had our first glass of wine watching the world go by. Our Seine River cruise was booked at 8:30pm to spend our time on board indulging in delicate and delicious Parisian food with the stunning backdrop of Paris at night. Sailing by Notre Dame, The Louvre, Parliament, and of course finishing with the Eiffel Tower glittering in the night sky.

Day 2 – The Big Day – Longchamp Racecourse

We left for the races at 10am, avoiding all traffic and got to the course within 15mins of our departure from the hotel. Surrounded by horses, fashion and a wonderful atmosphere, I was transported into a new world of Paris I had never seen before. The course is very accessible with lifts and flat walkways for both able and disabled customers. We were greeted by the Qatar hosts, with a live Brass Band to welcome you and start your day with fun. The whole area had many photo opportunities for those who want a good Instagram photo.

You can easily enjoy a meal at the food trucks if you want a more affordable meal. However, if you really want to treat yourself. I highly recommend the Bistro Restaurant. This is a temporary restaurant, only open during these races, even though this is temporary it is beautifully rustic chic. A three-course meal is a great way to start the day. Spectate had booked the 11:30am lunch, although an early lunch, it was well worth it to be able to watch every single race and not miss one!

I had tickets to the Grandstand, located on the second floor of the building. With an indoor area which was warmly welcomed with the rain and cold I experienced on this day. From speaking to the regulars of this race it’s always lovely warm and sunny, the British rain must have followed me! The seats have a great view of the finish line and the walkway for the horses.

Between races you could go down to level 1 where you get to see the winners’ circle and see the interviews with the winners. The rest of the areas were dedicated to betting booths, bars, snacks and shopping. The queue for the betting is long as this is a huge part of the event, keep your eye out for the people in green jackets to help avoid the queue.

This evening after the whirlwind of the races (and not winning anything) we got dressed and headed to Ballon Des Temes for dinner. This was the best food of the trip. Very traditional Parisian style restaurant, with very French waiters. A welcoming atmosphere and definitely made for the more special nights. The food was a culinary sensation of delicious French cuisine; the duck Confit was my highlight, with its garlic infused and tender meat, served with spinach and potatoes. After a night full of wonderful food and wine and great company. We headed to the Hyatt Windo Bar on the 34th floor to spend our final night up until the Eiffel tower turned off and plummeted our night to darkness, like closing your eyes for a nap before your next big adventure.
